It is all systems go for the trip to La Bouille on Saturday 5 May, returning Bank Holiday Monday 7 May.

The response to committee members promotional efforts exceeded all expectations.  From worries about filling a 26 seater coach at a break-even cost per head of £135, we now have 32 travellers and the cost has reduced to £125.

The route will be via Dover/Calais/Dover which means several hours in the coach on each side of the channel.  It was considered important that costs should be kept down and this was the cheapest option.  One benefit is that there will be ample opportunity for socialising between veteran twinners and the many newcomers.

The programme in outline begins with a reception on Saturday evening at the Mairie, followed by dinner in the Salle Polyvalente.  On Sunday there will be a guided tour of Rouen followed by a visit to the 13th century abbey at St Martin de Boscherville where it is expected we will have a picnic lunch.  Sunday evening will be spent with our hosts - who will at some point be voting in the second round of the presidential election.  Activities on Monday morning include exploration of La Bouille village, visit to the Chateau Robert le Diable and le shopping.

A more detailed programme will be provided by our hosts.

The coach leaves for Calais at 12 noon on Bank Holiday Monday.  Arrival in Pangbourne is anticipated by 11pm.

Bon weekend a tout le monde!

About the Twinning Association

The aim of the Twinning Association is to foster Anglo-French relations. It offers an opportunity to:

  • Make friends on the other side of the Channel

  • Get to know your Whitchurch and Goring Heath neighbours better

  • Participate in the French way of life

  • Explore a beautiful region of France

  • Practise your French

If you don't speak a word of French there are plenty of English-speakers who will be happy to host you.

The Twinning Association was founded in 1978 and has gone from strength to strength since then. Read more about the Twinning Association's history and organisation here.
