Here are details of recent and forthcoming events as
well as information about other regular events.
- 2007
French visit to Whitchurch and
Goring Heath - A group of 16 people from La
Bouille visited Whitchurch over the week-end. An account of
their visit is on the Visit 2007
page and there are further photos on the
2007 Photos page.
-
Annual
General Meeting - The Twinning Annual General
Meeting took place on Friday 30th March 2007. The
minutes
of the meeting and the
Chairman's Report will give you a good overview of what
we did last year and what we are planning for the year
ahead. (To view these documents you need Adobe Reader
which you can download from
www.adobe.com.)
-
Trips
to La Bouille - These trips and the return visits
by the French are the highlights of the Twinning calendar.
In 2006 it was our turn to visit La Bouille. We travel by
coach and ferry or tunnel. The French entertain us with
Gallic panache, providing accommodation for us in their
homes, wining and dining us and making us as comfortable as
possible. There is generally a social evening arranged and a
day out to a local place of interest.People have found
that they have formed strong friendships with people in La
Bouille and many trips across the Channel are arranged
between friends in addition to the arranged Twinning trips.
Don't worry if your French isn't up to it, we can always
find hosts who want to practise their English.
Take a look at the Photo Archive
to get an idea of what we get up to on these trips. Or read
the story of our trip in 2006
and browse the photos from the
2006 trip.
-
Hosting
in Whitchurch - In 2007 it was our turn to
entertain the French. Those who wish to, offer accommodation
for the French visitors and entertain them in their homes.
We generally arrange a group social function and a day out
to a local place of interest. Whether or not you have French
guests staying at your home, you will be welcome to join in
with any of the activities arranged that week-end. Read
about the 2007 visit here, or
browse the photos.
-
Fund
Raising - The trips to La Bouille are self-funded
by the contributions of the participants. Of course we incur
costs for the trips and social events arranged when the
French visit us, so we need to raise funds. The village
fetes and a boules evening have been successful
fund-raising events in the past.
